Jackson Hole Non-Profit and Charitable organizations are the most generous per capita of any place in the World. Old Bill's Fun Run raises several million dollars each year alone. This philanthropic effort is unprecedented for a small community and stands out as a bright and shining light to any community. The once a year event provides much needed money for struggling charitable and county programs in the area. This effort has caught the eye of all organizations in America that seek to build on charitable funded organizations. Many wealthy locals contribute large matching grants to challenge the local community and the pot just keeps growing every year. We are all curious as a community as to where this tremendous effort is taking our community in the next few years. This program in Jackson Hole has impacted family lifestyles. Giving money away has become a fad and it is not just the rich participating. Another phenomenal trend is the donation of land through Jackson Hole Conservation efforts promoted throughout the community.
The presidential election of 2004 also helped distinguish Jackson Hole from all the other communities in the State of Wyoming. In this Republican red state, Teton County was the only county that did not support Bush and Cheney. This was a bit of a wake-up call for Dick Cheney as he declares residency in Teton Pines Golf and Tennis Resort on the West Bank Region of Wilson, just miles outside the town of Jackson. The community at large is a bit liberal and very focused on the sensitivity of the Jackson environment. We think that most voters in Teton County voted for the democrats because of the strong environmental stance the Democrats seem to promote.
However, there is a strong conservative mentality as well in Jackson Hole. The community has a strong religious base and the same conservatives that are leading out in the churches drive most community organizations. Many churches from the south bring large groups of people to the community to help support the Christian Ministries that are planted here. The area supports a large population of 'seekers". These are curious people searching and seeking for spiritual experiences through the beauty and grandeur of the majestic Grand Tetons. It is hard to stand at the base of Jenny Lake in Grand Teton National Park and be an agnostic. The intense majesty of the peak is simply breathtaking for the new visitor to the area. I have witnessed people looking up and saying over and over again 'Oh my God". Most locals in the community appreciate this as well and never forget the first time they saw the Grand Teton and always respect the scenic experience. There are waterfalls that come in all directions off the peak and along the trails you will find people meditating. The Park setting in off- trail locations provides for exceptional pristine wilderness experiences, as there is little to no noise except for the sounds of the nature surrounding the area.
Yellowstone National Park is also in our backyard and further shapes the diversity of the community. The Park is truly like a different planet with the ice fields, glaciers, volcanic geyser activity, abundant wildlife and much more. Our locals tend use the park more in the shoulder seasons, as it is very quiet and surreal. The park provides for the best of fly fishing adventures for our local anglers seeking excitement and solitude at the same time. Activities will always drive the community and shape the character that is so wild and fun about our community. The new improvements at the Ski Resort area and the Snow King Resort continue to also enhance the community by providing many new and fun programs for the kids recently.
All in all, the community of Jackson Hole is truly the perfect place to be a single person, kid growing up or a family guy seeking refuge from the rest of the world. The community produces strong and independent characters as a result of the great people and the place we live.
